My Crochet Story

My crochet story began about ten years ago; I was already a knitter, but found myself intrigued by crochet.

A dear friend of mine, Heather, taught me how to crochet, she had learned as a child from her grandmother. Heather taught me the double crochet stitch and how to make a wash cloth.  She taught me that by crocheting in the back loop you get more scrubbing texture.  Armed with my new knowledge and a desire for more, I went to the internet where I landed on YouTube and found Clare from BobWilson123.org. I learned so much from her and her videos. I shared with her a picture of a blanket I created from one of her patterns, she loved it so much she asked if she could use it for her pattern.  Of course I said yes, I was really proud of that accomplishment!

Blankets are what I seem to crochet most, I enjoy making them, especially if it’s a baby blanket to gift.  I’ve been crocheting now for about ten years and really enjoy it all, I have made so many things, including, but not limited to, scarves, blankets, hats, slippers, baby booties, sweaters, cardigans, bunting, mittens, cowls, table runners, flowers galore, coasters, granny squares, and a nativity set.

I love crocheting so much, I share it as often as I can through gifts, a crochet group, and teaching. I have taught many friends, individually one-on-one, including my daughter.  Last Summer I started teaching at our local Michael’s Store where I teach a wide range of ages the art of crochet.  The most exciting class was the group class with two young girls who really soaked it up and wanted to learn more and more!  Kids are sponges!

I earned an instructors certificate by going through the Craft Yarn Council’s Instructor program.  I learned so much about crochet and myself.  You don’t need to be inspired to teach to participate in this program.  I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about the art of Crochet.

I’ve also started writing my patterns down and sharing them, one day I hope to open my own yarn shop where I can share  yarn, crochet, and coffee every day! For now, I will write, publish, make, and share crochet on the web and in classes.

Thanks for reading ☀️crochet a little sunnshyne today!

  1. I’m happy to see you spreading your own special brand of sunnshyne! I was inspired by you to start crocheting, too! Now I just need to be inspired to be as dedicated!
